Most people know that the moon orbits around Earth. But what
would happen if it suddenly got closer?
If the moon got closer to Earth, the first thing that would
happen is that our tides would become much higher. The tides are caused by the
gravitational pull of the moon, so if it was closer, the pull would be
stronger. This could cause some serious problems for coastal areas around the
world.
Another effect of the moon getting closer would be an
increase in volcanic and earthquake activity. This is because the moon affects
the rotational axis of the Earth. If the moon was closer, the rotational axis
would be more unstable, causing more earthquakes and volcanoes.
Finally, if the moon got close enough, it would start to
break up due to the gravitational pull of Earth. This would cause a massive
debris field in Earth’s orbit, which would be very dangerous for any spacecraft
or satellites.
So, while it might be fun to imagine what would happen if
the moon got closer to Earth, it’s actually not something we would want to
happen
